BMW X3 M40i Service Adventure: An Update on a Few Issues

BMW X3 M40i Service Adventure: An Update on a Few Issues A couple of updates back, we reported our  2018 BMW X3  M40i was suffering from a leaky sunroof, a creaking suspension, and a busted cargo net. I brought it in to get all of that sorted and to take care of routine service and learned that not all  BMW  dealerships are created equal. This was my third time going to this particular dealership, and every time I get a non-BMW loaner from its Enterprise rental partner. If I owned the X3 and bought into the BMW experience, I would not be happy.

JDM 2020 Subaru Impreza Gets Styling Refresh and Standard EyeSight

The refreshed  2020 Subaru Impreza  has been revealed in its home market of Japan, but you'll need a magnifying glass to see the changes. A revised lower front fascia is the most obvious change because there's now one large opening instead of three smaller ones. Two chrome strips surround the front foglights and the grille is narrower than its predecessor.  Subaru  appears to have also added two new wheel designs as part of the JDM Impreza's refresh. No changes appear to have been made to the  2020 Subaru Impreza's interior , which features the Starlink infotainment system with a 6.5- or 8.0-inch touchscreen. For the Japanese market, the  2020 Subaru Impreza  comes standard with the EyeSight driver assistance suite, which bundles together automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Subaru couldn't comment on whether we'll get the same changes, but expect the U.S.-s

James Bond’s 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Sells for More Than $6.3 Million

James Bond’s 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Sells for More Than $6.3 Million RM Sotheby's did well by adding a third night to its 2019 Monterey auction roster, featuring Aston Martins exclusively. The star of the evening, a  1965 DB5  that was one of three existing screen cars from the popular 007 franchise movie,  Goldfinger , sold for a huge $6,385,000 to plenty of applause from the auction room. Applause came first when the ex-Bond DB5 rolled onto the block in the Portola Plaza Hotel event space after a short teaser video played, showing the car screeching around twisting roads with appropriately Bond-esque music and cinematography. Bidding started quick and steady, with six bidders vying for the car both in the room and on the telephone, though once bids crested $4.5 million, then $5 million, the remaining bids were given more thoughtfully. In all, it took nearly five minutes before the car was hammered sold to a bidder in the room. As what may be the most famous

Classic Corvettes Abound at the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise

Classic Corvettes Abound at the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise It's the year of Corvette.  With the unveiling of the long-awaited mid-enigne 2020 Stingray , 'Vette fever is peaking. So it's no surprise that the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise is packed with the first seven generations of the sports car. Every day last week leading up to the actual cruise on Saturday, the lanes of Woodward have been an homage to classic Corvettes; with the debut of the Corvette C8, everything with an engine in front of the driver will soon be considered legacy. Since the mid-engine car does not go on sale until early next year, anyone hoping to see production models on the road cruising was disappointed. But the  Chevy  area along Woodward had a preproduction model on display on Saturday. Lines formed early for a look, and they never let up. The eighth-generation car has the updated pushrod 6.2-liter small-block V-8 engine known as LT2, which makes 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft

Find Out What the 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S 992 Makes on the Dyno

Find Out What the 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S 992 Makes on the Dyno We all know  Porsche  is capable of building powerful, naturally aspirated screamers like the 520-hp engine in the  GT3 RS . And Porsche engineers have demonstrated plenty of forced-induction proficiency with the twin-turbo flat-six in the  690-hp GT2 RS . Our question has to do with the turbocharged, water-cooled lump sitting over the rear axle of the new 992-generation 911 Carrera S; how much power is it really making? We took a Racing Yellow 2020 911 Carrera S to a dyno to find out. Porsche claims 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six, but keep in mind, those numbers are rated at the crank. Those specs won't directly translate to the numbers this Porsche will put down on the dyno. A dynamometer measures how much power and torque make it to the ground, or in this case, the cylindrical drums on which the car is driving during dyno testing. Some of the po

Best Classic Car Patina Seen at the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise

Best Classic Car Patina Seen at the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise Although the dictionary describes patina as "a green or brown film on the surface of bronze or similar metals, produced by oxidation over a long period," MotorTrend sees it differently. Every August, during the annual Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise north of Detroit, MotorTrend describes patina as an awesome ode to  au naturel  classic cars and trucks and the people who appreciate them. Anyone who has worked on a car knows the paint job is painstaking and expensive. Some cars might not be worth it. In Michigan it's not hard to find early-model vehicles where oxidation has robbed them of color and left them basking in a form of their birthday suit. A good sealer can preserve that. But rust takes its toll on a lot of Midwest vehicles. One trend today is to take a vehicle with a body still in good shape and add a little faux patina using a chemical spray or maybe just a vinyl wrap depicting p

Bidders and spectators alike wondered if the car would fetch the $21 million to $23 million that auction house RM Sotheby's estimated for the rare three-seater supercar. In the end, the hammer fell at $19.8 million including commission, which is still enough to set a new world record for most valuable  McLaren  F1 sold at auction. The McLaren F1 in question is one of just 64 road-going versions of the model made (the remainder of the 106 produced were prototypes or race cars) and also one of just two to be converted to Le Mans (LM) spec by   McLaren Special Operations . Take The Finest Ingredients & Season With SCHROTH

Take The Finest Ingredients & Season With SCHROTH Accessories can make or break an outfit, just like how the final finishing touches can make or break your car build. The devil is very much in the detail and a slip at the last hurdle can either make you look like a hero, or a total zero. When it comes to safety equipment, this statement could not be more true. Scrimping in the safety department has never been a smart idea, especially if you have gone all-out elsewhere on the car. It should come as no surprise that I am a total fan of  SCHROTH Racing . I’ve used their harnesses in my personal cars for almost 10 years, and as an appreciator of all things technical and built upon heritage, it doesn’t get much better than the SCHROTH brand. After all, they’ve been producing safety products for top-level motorsport for almost a century. To put the cherry on top, SCHROTH pops up in some incredible archive images from the greatest periods of motorsport in the best cars going. T

BS-VI TVS Apache RTR 160 4V spotted ahead of imminent launch The revised front-end of the BS-VI Apache RTR 160 4V features bigger pilot lamps, along with a LED headlight setup. The redesigned headlight mask (in a dual-tone finish) adds a refreshed look to the front fascia of the Apache RTR 160 4V. Another set of clear spy images from CarToq reveal the rest of the design, which is identical to the current (BS-IV) version. Thus, you can see a muscular fuel tank with an asymmetrically mounted filler cap, a single-piece step-up seat, a boxy exhaust design, an engine cowl and a split-style pillion grab rail. The saddle appears to feature a dual-tone finish for a premium look. The cockpit retains the digital instrument console along with switchgear, bar-end weights, grips and levers from the current model. Apart from the regular ride-related information, the feature-rich display includes a gear position indicator and a lap timer. A single-piece handlebar will continue to perform the
