Family owned since new, one of the last of the big Caddys

Family owned since new, one of the last of the big Caddys 1977, Cadillac had a surprise for its 75th anniversary as it downsized its vehicles to produce what it called “the next generation of the luxury car.”   But while the DeVille and Fleetwood now were as much as a foot shorter (the Seville was introduced in 1975 on a smaller chassis), the Eldorado escaped the change until the 1979 model year. Pick of the Day is a  1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz,  not only the most-expensive of that year’s Cadillacs but reportedly one of the last 50 big Caddys built. It is advertised for sale on  ClassicCars.com  by a private seller, who notes that the car has been owned by the same family since its original purchase and has been driven only 9,400 miles in all that time.

2020 SUBARU OUTBACK VS. 2019 HONDA PASSPORT

2020 SUBARU OUTBACK VS. 2019 HONDA PASSPORT In a vehiclescape increasingly dominated by high-riding crossovers that mostly just haul folks around on pavement, it's fun to zoom in on the few that still pretend to serve the outdoorsy mission the genre was created for in the first place. For 25 years people have been taking  Subaru  Outbacks out to the back of beyond. Sure, the Outback started life as a mildly hiked up wagon and no, it never featured butch rock-crawling gear like a ladder frame or live axles, but these days it offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive, a National Parks infotainment app, and an  Onyx XT trim grade  boasting a front-view camera for spotting the immediate obstacles ahead, a full-size spare, and an exclusive Dual-Mode X-Mode drive program that adds settings for deep-snow and mud or dirt and sand conditions to facilitate family adventuring.  Honda 's key competitor in this space, the Passport, once  did  feature a ladder fram

2019 NY AUTO SHOW DEBUTS: MOTORTREND'S BEST CARS OF THE SHOW

2019 NY AUTO SHOW DEBUTS: MOTORTREND'S BEST CARS OF THE SHOW Even though most folks in New York City perceive cars in shades of yellow or black, the New York International Auto Show is still a big draw for automakers—and this year was no exception. While there were no standout show-stoppers, there were many solid entries in key segments. In other words, it was more about what customers are going to buy next, rather than the cars of their dreams (well, OK,  Porsche 911  Speedster…). Read on to see which vehicles caught the eyes of our editors. http://shalomcabs.in/

SPIED! BRIGHT GREEN 992 PORSCHE 911 TARGA TESTS NEAR THE NURBURGRING

SPIED! BRIGHT GREEN 992 PORSCHE 911 TARGA TESTS NEAR THE NURBURGRING Late last year,  Porsche  finally took the wraps off  the redesigned 2020 911 . As we found when  we drove it a few months later , the new 911 Carrera S is "thrillingly fast, telepathically responsive, and wonderfully communicative. It's all 911, all the time, yet more approachable and trustworthy at the limit than ever before." Even if we're not entirely sold on some of the styling changes, a review like that has us anxious to drive other variants. And based on what we can see of the prototype shown here, it won't be long before Porsche introduces the new 911 Targa. Late last year,  Porsche  finally took the wraps off  the redesigned 2020 911 . India-made Ford Ka+ to be discontinued in Europe

India-made Ford Ka+ to be discontinued in Europe The Ford Ka+ range has been struggling to keep up with rivals such as the Renault Twingo and the Dacia Sandero. Moreover, axing the model should help the company cut down on its overall CO2 emissions. The CO2 penalties that the Ka+ would have had incurred would have made it even less popular among the city car buyers. Elaborating further, Finn has reportedly said that the decision to discontinue the model is in line with the company's strategy of creating a sustainably profitable business in Europe by either improving or discontinuing the less profitable model ranges. The 2018 Ford Ka+ range is currently on sale in Europe at a starting price of £11,300 (INR 10,28,733). It is available with a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT three-cylinder petrol that is available in two states of tunes - 70 PS/113.5 Nm and 85 PS/115 Nm, and the 1.5-litre TDCi four-cylinder diesel engine that offers 95 PS and 215 Nm of torque. All the motors come mated to a 5-

Hyundai to produce up to 9,000 units of the Venue in India a month

Hyundai to produce up to 9,000 units of the Venue in India a month We are looking at definitely a volume of around eight to nine thousand per month for the Venue to start off with,” Puneet Anand, Sr. General Manager and Group Head, Marketing, Hyundai Motor India, told IAB on the sidelines of the unveiling event on a cruise liner in midst of the Arabian Sea yesterday. I am sure this will be received very well and will redefine the way people have been looking at the sub-4 metre segment Hyundai will increase its production to a higher level if the market demands.“As the customers want more and more, we will definitely augment, our production will ramp in,” Anand said. The company is targeting the Venue primarily at customers in the age group of 25-30 years. We have given the first connected SUV to the young audience, 25-30 years of age, who don’t treat car as a place of mobility, but they treat car as their third space. After their office, after their home, I think car is t

Tata Nexon mild-hybrid spied completely undisguised

Tata Nexon mild-hybrid spied completely undisguised The Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz both are said to come with a mild-hybrid system, and that should happen only after they become BS-VI compliant by March 2019. The person who snapped the mild-hybrid variant of the Tata Nexon has said that this unit was manufactured under a test production run. No details about Tata Motor’s first-ever mild-hybrid system are available yet. However, the company’s European technical centre was working on two 48-volt systems codenamed ‘P0’ and ‘P2’ in the past, and maybe one of them is going to be put to use in the aforementioned sub-compact models. Tata Motors has said that to meet the next phase of CAFE, even the  Harrier could get a hybrid variant . The launch of the petrol-electric mild-hybrid variant won’t lead to discontinuation of the 1.5-litre Revotorq engine. Reports are rife that this diesel engine is being upgraded for BS-VI emission norms, and that it  will be offered even in the Altroz .

Ford & Mahindra sign an agreement for co-developed C-

Ford & Mahindra sign an agreement for co-developed C- In a joint release, Ford and Mahindra say that their co-developed C-SUVs “will have a common Mahindra platform and powertrain.” These models, or at least the Mahindra offering, won’t be limited to just India. “Under the new agreement, Mahindra and Ford will work together to introduce a benchmark product for India and emerging markets,” the release states. Mahindra’s C-SUV co-developed with Ford will be the second generation XUV500. Instead of continuing the outgoing model’s platform, Mahindra is developing a new one, and it’s very likely that the company’s R&D team in Detroit (at MNATC), is going to have a hand in the development. In 2015, reports said that Ford is planning to manufacture its Panther-series diesel engines in India. With Mahindra’s diesel engine, a newly developed 2.0-litre diesel unit producing an impressive 185 horsepower, set to be employed in the made-for-India Ford C-SUV, Ford won’t won’t need

Renault HBC small SUV confirmed to be launched in India in 2020

Renault HBC small SUV confirmed to be launched in India in 2020 The latest development was recently revealed by Venkatram Mamillapalle, Renault India’s new Managing Director. “The mid-term plan is in force and everything goes as per the plan,” he said. We need to have double the share by 2022 with a proper line up (of products) with RBC (Triber) this year and HBC next year. The HBC has been in the rumour mill since 2016, but Renault has remained light-tipped on the progress of the project so far. It will be the final model to come from the Kwid family after the Triber. Like the Triber, it should have an individual design and not be a mere product extension. The Renault HBC should measure no more than 4,000 mm in length, to get taxed at the least possible rate(s) and have economical pricing. Power could come from the turbocharged version of the Kwid’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is said to be offered as an option in the Triber next year.

The charging network will be expanded as the availability expands to other cities.

Jaguar I-Pace confirmed for India, to be launched in 2020

Jaguar I-Pace confirmed for India, to be launched in 2020 India is not a big market for EVs or any electrified vehicles for that matter yet, but luxury automakers are stepping in early anyways. After  Audi  and  Mercedes-Benz , Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed its EV for our market - the Jaguar I-Pace. The Jaguar I-Pace is the first all-electric vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover. Designed from the outset as an EV, it sits on a dedicated EV platform and has an offbeat design that is typical of alternate energy vehicles. Looking half-SUV, half-hatchback, the pure electric Jaguar has some coupe styling too, lent by the C-X75 supercar-influenced silhouette. The company says that even though it’s a mid-size SUV, the cab forward design and the EV powertrain have led to a cabin as spacious as that of a large SUV. The Jaguar I-Pace packs a 90 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a range of 470 km (WLTP cycle). A 0-100% charge using a 7 kW AC charger takes 12.9 hours, while a 0-
