2019 RAM HEAVY DUTY: SIX ROUNDS OF RAM HD PUB AMMO

2019 RAM HEAVY DUTY: SIX ROUNDS OF RAM HD PUB AMMO Ram product planners apparently reckon steering a truck and trailer rig with a knob is for sissies. At least the suite of onboard and available trailer cameras—especially when viewed on the center stack's optional big-screen TV—make the job a whole lot easier. NEW 6.7-LITER CUMMINS DIESEL WITH 1,000 LB-FT OF TORQUE   VIEW 205 PHOTOS Sure, the bore, stroke, and essential architecture are the same, but in order to achieve that kilo-pound-foot torque rating, this engine is all new from the compacted-graphite-iron (CGI) block on up, which contributed heavily toward an overall weight reduction of 60 pounds. Weight was also saved by machining a hollow steel billet camshaft and replacing non-structural things like brackets with alloy materials. The crank is strengthened and now connects to the flywheel with 10 bolts, and the rods are made of a stronger alloy and feature larger wrist pins bearings. Compression increases from

2019 BYTON M-BYTE FIRST LOOK: MEGA-BYTE

2019 BYTON M-BYTE FIRST LOOK: MEGA-BYTE A couple of years ago, at the press introduction of the  Toyota Prius  C in San Diego, I was chatting with chief engineer Satoshi Ogiso, a central figure in the history  Toyota 's hybrid technology. As we both stared at a Prius parked at the curb, I asked him what worried a guy like him about the future. He answered more quickly than I expected (I'm paraphrasing here): "Startup car electric car companies. A gasoline engine has thousands of parts, and it takes a big company with a lot of resources to manufacture. But an electric motor is cheap with one moving part. The barrier for an electric car startup is very low. I worry about them."   VIEW 45 PHOTOS Five years later, his fear is realized: The entire drivetrain of the imminently arriving China-based Byton—its motors and powertrain electrics from Bosch, its underfloor battery pack from  BMW -supplier CATL, with prismatic cells chargeable at a 180 kW rate—has been

THIS MATCHED PAIR OF 1987 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL COUPES IS UP FOR GRABS

THIS MATCHED PAIR OF 1987 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL COUPES IS UP FOR GRABS The  Buick Grand National  is a pretty rare sight these days. It's even rarer to find one with less than 1,000 miles on the clock. But you know what's even rarer than that? Finding two Grand Nationals each with less than 1,000 miles. With sequential VINs. Oh, and did I mention they've been kept together their entire lives?   VIEW 14 PHOTOS Lot #1307 and #1307.1 at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale sale will be auctioned as a pair this Thursday, January 17. Known as "The Twinz," the two identical 1987  Buick  Grand Nationals were built one after the other, optioned exactly the same, and were never sold as new cars. According to our friends at  Hot Rod , who have  the full story on these Turbo Regal twins , the cars were ordered by a family Buick dealership and kept in the showroom until the business shuttered. The owner's son eventually took the cars home and stored them in a barn for
