2020 TOYOTA COROLLA HYBRID: TRUNK-ATED PRIUS

2020 TOYOTA COROLLA HYBRID: TRUNK-ATED PRIUS

There was, of course, perhaps a bit more to it. For one thing, there's the battery pack to consider—and the Corolla Hybrid's sounds a lot like the one in the new Prius AWD-e, which was introduced at the same Los Angeles International Auto Show press conference. Both cars utilize a nickel-metal-hydride chemistry that is shared by the RAV4 and Highlander hybrids. It reportedly holds as much energy as the lithium-ion battery pack in the front-drive Prius but is 20 percent larger. It is also more effective in very cold weather and is likely cheaper (which is probably why it was selected for the Corolla). The Prius AWD-e release announced its new NiMH battery's high performance in cold weather. (Might we infer that choosing this battery makes it easier to add a Corolla Hybrid AWD-e in a few months or years? That'd be one heckuva unique selling proposition!)

The product team's mission was to develop a competitive midsize pickup with the look and capability of a Wrangler. It took longer to bring a crew cab to fruition, but the end result was deserving of the Gladiator name, said Tim Kuniskis, head of the Jeep brand in North America. The Scrambler is not coming back.
